ARSHINAGAR SHILPOGRAM

Tranquil eco retreat with 6 mud & 4 wooden cottages beside organic farm.

Guided by this very spirit, our Arshinagar Shilpogram seeks to create an immersive experience where guests can reconnect with nature, culture and themselves amidst serene rural surroundings. Beyond hospitality, we aspire to build a sustainable ecosystem in collaboration with neighbouring villages by encouraging self-reliance and community development. Local villagers are supported with modern farming knowledge and sustainable livelihood opportunities, while our guests are welcomed with the authentic richness of rural Bengal — fresh dairy products from our own cows, organically cultivated vegetables, naturally grown fish and heartfelt local hospitality. Blending the wisdom of Lalon’s philosophy with eco-conscious living, Arshinagar Shilpogram offers a unique retreat where simplicity becomes luxury, tradition meets sustainability and every stay becomes a journey of peace, reflection and belonging.

ARSHINAGAR SHILPOGRAM — Where Culture Breathes Through Nature

Inspired by the timeless philosophy of Lalon Shah (1772-1890), also known as Lalon Fakir, Arshinagar Shilpogram is envisioned as more than a destination — it is a soulful retreat rooted in harmony, humanity and self-discovery. Lalon, revered across the Indian subcontinent as a humanitarian saint and honoured with the title “Mahatma” decades before Mahatma Gandhi, transcended all barriers of caste, creed and religion through his songs and spiritual teachings. His philosophy deeply inspired luminaries such as Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Allen Ginsberg. At the heart of his teachings lies the belief that every human being carries within an eternal essence — the “Moner Manush” or the mysterious “Achin Pakhi” — which can be realized through inner awakening, simplicity and a deeper connection with life and nature. Inspired by this vision, the spiritual settlement that grew around him near Kushtia came to be known as “Arshinagar” — the City of Mirrors, where humanity reflects itself in one another.

Bawali village, located near Kolkata, has been a densely populated village since before the rise of the city. Surrounded by more than a hundred temples, constructed by local zamindar’s, the village has earned recognition as a significant religious and cultural center. It is said that Sri Chaitanya Dev visited this village during his lifetime, and the influence of Vaishnavism can still be observed among the villagers. The temples attached to the zamindar’s estate have gained the name “Gupta Vrindavan,” further highlighting the village’s deep spiritual heritage.
