Arshinagar – Bawali Rajbari

Arshinagar – Bawali Rajbari

This 300 year old heritage structure is built on 3 acres of land graced by lush gardens and two larges ponds. The Bawali Zamindari of Mondals date back to Basudeb Ram who was an influential official of the Mughal Army probably during the reign of Emperor Akbar. However, this Zamindari rose to prominence when the Raja of Hijli offered Rajaram one of the members of this family, the ownership of 50 villages including Bawali and Budge Budge due to his bravery in preventing the Maratha invasion. During their heyday, the Bawali Zamindars had built several magnificient terracotta temples in Bawali and adjacent villages. Today, the palatial Rajbari decked with antique furniture is being thoroughly renovated to become a heritage hotel.
